The I-C2 technology is uniquely suited to support communication and coordination when agents are performing cooperative tasks in high-pressure situations. |
The vision
The founders of I-C2 Systems have spent many years researching and building
software and solutions that improve computer-mediated communication.
This work has resulted in a wide range of deployments across the world.
Marc MoensMarc Moens was a researcher in the area of human communication at the University of Edinburgh where he also obtained a PhD in Cognitive Science and Linguistics. He left the University to co-found Rhetorical Systems, the text-to-speech company, and became its CEO. The company soon became a market leader in high-quality text-to-speech, with sales across Europe and the US. In December 2004 Rhetorical was sold to a US-based speech company.
"The focus of my work over the past 15 years has been to develop tools
and techniques that help people find the information they need when
they need it, and to make sure they can use this information when
carrying out complex tasks. In I-C2 Systems we take this up several
levels of complexity: when faced with high-consequence events and
emergencies, people are faced with unusual streams of information
which they need to relate to existing knowledge, plans, and
procedures. I-C2 Systems can provide the technology to help them with
this. This can save money; it can save time; but most importantly: it
can save lives."
Austin TateProf. Austin Tate is Professor of Knowledge-Based Systems at the University of Edinburgh where he has been Director of the Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute (AIAI) since he helped form it in 1984. He holds a degree in Computer Studies and a PhD in Machine Intelligence. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (Scotland's National Academy), and is a Fellow of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence amongst other honours. He is a professionally Chartered Engineer. "For the past 20 years, my work on process and plan representations has always been very application-oriented, with real-world deployments in commercial, engineering and governmental settings. For the last decade I have concentrated on putting these ideas into use for emergency response. I-C2 Systems is a natural extension of this. The technology is uniquely suited to support collaboration between human agents and between humans and machines when performing cooperative tasks in high-pressure situations." |
